I never expected to fall for my landlord.

Moving to Balsam Ridge was supposed to be a fresh start for me and my daughter, Emma. After losing my husband, I swore off love. My focus has been on building a stable, happy life for Emma in this small town, far away from the chaos of the city. But then there's Hank—steady, dependable, and always there when I need him.

I try to keep my distance, but it’s impossible not to notice the way my heart skips every time he smiles, or the way Emma lights up when he's around. The walls I built around my heart start to crumble, no matter how hard I try to keep them up. But I'm scared—scared to let him in, scared of what happens if things fall apart.

Hank promises he's not going anywhere, but I've been down this road before. Letting someone into our lives is a risk, and I’m not sure if my heart can survive losing again.
